SIXTH GRADE THROUGH EIGHTH GRADES:
HISTORY
For upper grade students, the Mystery of History curriculum couples of the story of man with the story of God. The study answers questions such as: Why are we here? What is our purpose in existing? What is the mystery of life that lies in the gospel? Students will research topics using both written texts and the Internet and present the information in a variety of ways.
MATH: In the sixth, seventh and eighth grades, after mastering the basic math skills with whole numbers, fractions, percents, measurement, and geometry, students progress through pre-algebra and algebra studies. The primary focus is to solve real life problems with competent math skills.
SPANISH: Students develop conversational vocabulary and sentence construction as well as learn about the Mexican and Spanish cultures.
LITERATURE: Students read literature that mirrors the time period they are studying. In addition, children are grouped by interest and ability in small group reading/discussion groups for novels and short stories. Children analyze literature through a directed method as well as write to a variety of prompts and questions.
GRAMMAR AND WORD STUDY: Wisdom Tree teaches grammar in directed lessons which are reinforced in the foreign language lessons. Children practice their grammar skills through a published curriculum, much of which is completed in home study lessons. Spelling is integrated into our vocabulary study.
SCIENCE: The science curriculum is a two year study that emphasizes concept mastery through observation and the scientific method. The curriculum develops critical thinking skills and logic through the use of the scientific method, summaries and notebooks rather than worksheets, tests, or repetitive drills to evaluate learning.
ORAL PRESENTATIONS: The upper grade children are required to present information orally on a regular basis. These reports include information on famous people studied, areas of expertise, and selected assigned topics for debate.
